Want to know more about Kahoot!?
Hi there! You have probably read a fair few job descriptions for product designers before. And if you’re anything like me, you probably find them all very similar. But let me try and explain why I think Kahoot! is such a special place to work.
1️⃣ The meaning our product has for our users.
When I started at Kahoot! back in 2017, I got to visit several schools in the US to do research on how they use Kahoot! I was absolutely amazed at the excitement I felt from both students and teachers. Kids would go crazy as we walked by in our Kahoot! swag yelling things like: “Oh you guys work at Kahoot? That awesome!”. We even felt the love outside the schools, for example when buying coffee hearing stories about how people’s kids love to play Kahoot! in school. When we got back to our headquarters in Oslo and I enthusiastically shared my experiences with my new colleagues, nobody was surprised, they even told me some of them had had to hand out autographs to students in the past. I had never experienced such excitement from users before.
2️⃣ We have a great design team (at least we’d like to think so).
The team consists of 14 designers with a variety of nationalities, some of us remote, and some working from our main office in Oslo, Norway. We’re split up into smaller groups, almost like mini design teams in our respective product teams. We do show-and-tell feedback sessions with the entire design team and we work on our design system together. It’s exciting to see how we’ve doubled in size over the past few years whilst keeping the same level of engagement and helpfulness in each other’s work. We also do our best to connect socially. For example we start every Friday with playing a Kahoot! with the design team. Every week a new designer has to create and host that game. I’m always amazed at the creative ways that our designers find to make fun quizzes.
3️⃣ Designers at Kahoot! get a lot of flexibility in the way they work
and little to no micro-management. We asked our designers in an anonymous survey what the best perks about working at Kahoot! are. See some of their answers below ⬇
